The franchise has already fulfilled all the requirements to provide an anime with the utmost complexion to watch chronologically. Different anime stories bounce between the previous arcs, and some new light novels and mangas are also released. Although the series has offered its share of difficulty to watch, it hasn’t stopped the anime fans from facing it. It may be one of the most complex series of all time, but here’s a Monogatari watch order to make things easier for you.
Monogatari Series All Anime, Manga, And Light Novels
Apart from the main timeline, the series introduces new story arcs for the transition between previous timelines. Hence, this increased the complexity of the Monogatari watch order. Though there are multiple different releases of the series, it can’t be denied that this will be the easiest path for a new viewer. While the first three seasons have already been animated, the last two aren’t speculated to get an anime adaptation soon. In contrast to being an easy route to watch the series, the anime could be pretty confusing after Koyomimonogatari. Hence, according to the release date, the Monogatari watch order is sufficient for new viewers only to the second season.
Nevertheless, the new viewers could easily enjoy the first part of the series. However, for a different perspective of the series, some viewers opt to view it chronologically. Also, the easiest way doesn’t mean the most profound or efficient one.

Monogatari Watch Order Chronologically
Since many viewers desire to watch an anime in its chronological order, the Monogatari watch order chronologically follows.
Wazamonogatari (Acerola Bon Apetite) (2016) LN
Though it’s the fifteenth edition of the series, it takes place before any other event. Wazamonogatari Acerola Bon Apetite is the first one on the Monogatari watch order. Apart from this, the Wazamonogatari contains multiple different storylines, including Karen Ogre, Tsubasa sleeping, etc. It contains information about how Fair Princess Acerola turned into a vampire.
Kizumonogatari (2016-2017) Movies
Consisting of three movies, Kizumonogatari holds 2nd place on Monogatari watch order. Apart from being the 2nd on the list, it’s the first to introduce Koyomi Araragi. The story follows the Fair Princess Acerola, who’s now turned into a vampire named Kiss-shot Acerola-Orion Heart-under-blade. Additionally, it starts the anime with its plot. In summary, the three movies contained Koyomi becoming Kiss-shot’s vampire subordinate and retrieving her limbs from different vampire hunters.
Nekomonogatari (BLACK) (2012) Anime
The third in the list of Monogatari Watch Order is Nekomonogatari Black. In contrast to the first two, Nekomonogatari Black follows the storyline of Tsubasa‘s family. In addition, Tsubasa Hanekawa is one of the main characters of the series. She’s Koyomi Araragi’s friend. Apart from the first two titles, this arc somewhat specializes in humor. Additionally, it’s one of the easiest arcs to cover, with only four episodes.
Bakemonogatari (2009) Anime
With 15 episodes, this was the first anime adaptation of a Monogatari series. Though it was the first one to be released, it is determined to be the 4th in the Monogatari watch order. The story follows Koyomi Araragi’s account after he survives Kiss-shot and gets freed from being her subordinate. However, he still holds the powers he once had as a vampire. Although he tries to live like an average student, he starts helping the ones in need. Hence, it’s a vital arc that shouldn’t be missed. It introduces multiple casts of the series, but it also lays the path for future ones.
Nisemonogatari (2012) Anime
Following Bakemonogatari, Nisemonogatari is the 5th one in the Monogatari watch order. The anime directly follows the Bakemonogatari story. However, it focuses more on Araragi’s family. In addition, the antagonist of the story is a conman named Deishuu Kaiki. The anime also shows two women who know all about Araragi and his supernatural friends. With 11 episodes, the anime is yet another short one.
Kabukimonogatari (2010) LN
Monogatari Series Second Season 2nd Arc
The 6th one on the list of Monogatari Watch Order is Kabukimonogatari. It has a unique storyline. Not only does it have Koyomi and Oshino working together, but it also follows time travel. The duo travels 11 years back in time, and Koyomi saves Hachikuji Mayoi from a car crash. Hence when they come back to the future, a completely different scenario occurs. Though they were able to save Mayoi, they couldn’t divert the catastrophic changes that occurred. Therefore, the duo starts finding ways to go back again and revert the changes they made last time.
Onimonogatari (2011) LN
Monogatari Series Second Season 4th Arc
Another light novel of the series which hasn’t got any anime adaptation until now is Onimonogatari. At the 7th place in the Monogatari Watch Order, Onimonogatari follows the events of Kizumonogatari. Since the previous one showed Mayoi coming back to life, Onimonogatari shows how she abandons her existence to restore order in the world.
Owarimonogatari Volume 2 (2014) LN
Owarimonogatari Season 1 (Episode 7-12) (2017) Anime
The fact that the 2nd volume of this novel comes before the 1st one in Monogatari Watch Order explains its complexity as a whole. Though volume 2 was released a year after the first one, Owarimonogatari Volume 2 is speculated to be viewed first. The novel contains the Shinobu Mail arc. Not only does it introduce us back to Mayoi, but it also shows Araragi in the afterlife. Hence, Owarimonogatari Volume 2 holds 8th place on the Monogatari Watch Order.
Nekomonogatari White (2010) LN
Monogatari Series Second Season 1st Arc
With seven volumes, Nekomonogatari is the 9th one in the Monogatari Watch Order. Also, it takes place simultaneously with the previous two light novels. Additionally, the story focuses on Tsubasa. Tsubasa discovers her powers in a split personality in the form of a white cat spirit.
Owarimonogatari Volume 1 (2013) LN
Owarimonogatari Season 1 (Episode 1-6) (2016) Anime
This light novel introduces Ougi Oshino. Not only does she have supernatural abilities like Araragi, but she also knows about his past, which he had long forgotten. Additionally, the anime covers the Ougi Formula, Sodachi Riddle, and Sodachi Lost arc. Hence it’s the 10th one in the Monogatari Watch Order.
Wazamonogatari (Tsubasa Sleeping) 2016 LN
Although the first one in Monogatari Watch Order is from Wazamonogatari, the Tsubasa Sleeping arc is the 11th one. This arc shows Tsubasa Hanekawa back in action. However, she unleashes her powers in a different country, i.e., Germany. Additionally, she faces vampire twins who are infamous for abducting travelers.

Orokamonogatari (Sodachi Fiasco) (2015) LN
Coming at no.12th in the Monogatari Watch Order is the Sodachi Fiasco arc of Orokamonogatari. The story follows the Sodachi Lost arc of Owarimonogatari Volume 1. Additionally, it provides the Sodachi Fiasco arc where Oikura Sodachi tells about her whereabouts after moving to a new town.
Otorimonogatari (2011) LN
Monogatari Series Second Season 3rd Arc
It is the 13th part of the Monogatari Watch Order. Additionally, it takes place around the same time as the Tsubasa Sleeping arc and the Sodachi Fiasco arc. Apart from this, it follows the aftermath of Deishuu Kaiki getting defeated. Though the antagonist is conquered by the Araragi and company, his dark aura remains on the school campus. Due to this, Nadeko Medusa– one of the students, faces some hallucinations in the school vicinity.
Koimonogatari (2011) LN
Monogatari Series Second Season 5th and Final Arc
Following the Otorimonogatari comes the Koimonogatari at the 14th place in the Monogatari Watch Order. Though the antagonist Deishuu Kaiki is defeated, the Monogatari series follows his life after the battle. He’s constantly contacted by Sejougahara to get back into the con business.
Tsukimonogatari (2014) Anime
Coming at 15th place on the Monogatari Watch Order, Tsukimonogatari covers the Yotsugi Doll arc. However, it only compiles five episodes. It takes place after the Hikagi End and involves Koyomi Araragi’s sister Tsukihi Araragi. The plot returns the vampire powers to Koyomi.
Owarimonogatari Volume 3 (2014) LN
Owarimonogatari 2nd season (2017) Anime
Since the first two volumes were adapted a year before, the third one was adapted with seven episodes. Owarimonogatari Volume 3 holds 16th place in the Monogatari Watch Order. Additionally, the story covers multiple different arcs like Mayoi Hell, Hitagi Rendezvous, and Ougi Dark.
Zoku Owarimonogatari (2018) Anime
At no. 17th in the Monogatari Watch Order is Zoku Monogatari. Moreover, it’s one of the most terrifying and complex arcs of the series. It comprises six episodes only. However, it follows a detailed Reverse Koyomi arc with many characters.
Hanamonogatari (2014) Anime
Compiled of 5 episodes, Hanamonogatari comes at the 18th position on Monogatari Watch Order. It shows the Suruga Devil arc. Additionally, it consists of Numachi‘s story rather than any direct connection to the storyline.
From here onwards, the list comprises light novels with no anime adaptations announced.
Shinobumonogatari:
Released on July 20th, 2017, it comprises the Shinobu Mustard arc. In contrast to Hanamonogatari, it reintroduces Koyomi Araragi back to the series. Hence, it’s the 19th one on the Monogatari Watch Order.
Wazamonogatari (Karen Ogre) 2016
The final part of Wazamonogatari comes at the 20th place on the Monogatari Watch Order. Moreover, it consists of Karen Araragi going into the mountains only to end up meeting Shinobu.
Orokamonogatari (Suruga Bonehead)
Released on October 5th, 2015, the Orokamonogatari Suruga Bonehead arc comes at the 21st place on Monogatari Watch Order. Furthermore, it contains Suruga and Ougi Oshino investigating the left rainy devil arm.
Orokamonogatari (Tsukihi Udon) (2015)
At no. 22nd on the Monogatari Watch Order is another arc of Orokamonogatari. Furthermore, it follows the storyline of the Tsukimonogatari arc. Tsukihi Araragi finds out about the Yotsugi doll. Hence, they have a conversation about its origin and much more.
Nademonogatari
The Nademonogatari comes at the 23rd and penultimate position of the Monogatari Watch Order. It follows the storyline of Nadeko Sengoku, who’s a girl and a previous Goddess.
Musubimonogatari
At the final position of the Monogatari, Watch Order is Musubimonogatari. Released on January 12th, 2017, it shows Koyomi as a police officer. It takes place five years after the last time Koyomi was shown.
