Shin Megami Tensei V: Game Mechanics
Atlus continues to reveal facts about the upcoming Shin Megami Tensei V, including character and gameplay information. In terms of gameplay, negotiation is back in SMTV. Where you can talk to opponent demons instead of battling them to recruit them. Every demon has its own personality and peculiarities, and SMTV will offer new ones. Furthermore, having specific demons in your squad can lead to unique discussions with opposing demons. Combat is straightforward and follows standard turn-based principles. Every adversary you come across has an elemental weakness that grants you an extra turn if you can damage them with it.
Shin Megami Tensei V uses the franchise’s classic Press Turn battle system, with the basic concepts mainly remaining intact. Taking advantage of an enemy’s elemental weakness or scoring a critical hit with an assault gives you and your allied Demons an extra turn to act. This is also true of adversaries. This mechanic must be used to conclude combat as soon and safely as feasible. But beware: if your foes manage to connect weaknesses and additional turns together, they can make quick work of you.
